To Plant Or Not To Plant

That is the question I ask myself each year. I am not a gardener by nature. I have a black thumb to be sure. But there is something rewarding about a garden. And K really wanted to plant one this year, so I called the 'Killer Tiller' guy to come till up the garden.

We went out and bought all kinds of fun plants. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, squash etc.. and got it all planted. (Mmmmm, I can just about taste my first tomatoe/potato chip sandwich of the summer....) Sumo LOVES days like this when we are outside all day and he can just lay around and watch us work.

Of course, after the work is done, we do our own share of laying around! The hammock is especially wonderful on a day like today!

Today Steve and K worked on a new flowerbed. They rode their bikes up to Farm and Fleet and picked up all kinds of beautiful flowers. (Steve fitted K's bike with a crate yesterday and she was itching to try it out!)

They both love to work outside in the garden and flowerbeds. I have to admit that it is not something I necessarily enjoy. I'm just glad that they do!

I was tagged by Cheryl and Annie97 to play in a meme...here it is. (I'm following MOST of the rules... I've decided that instead of choosing 6 to tag, I will challenge those who haven't been tagged yet to play along....)

1. What was I doing 10 years ago? Well, let's see. The kids were 8, 11 and 13 so I was in the very busy time of life of driving to school, soccer games, etc.. and cooking and doing laundry and trying to keep up.

  • 2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today- not in any particular order?
Knit, take a nap, calibrate my new running watch, play a game and go see the new Narnia movie.

    3. Snacks I enjoy. KettleKorn; chips and salsa; M&M's; scones; just about anything that is not good for me!

    4. Places I've lived- Minnesota; New York; Tokyo, Japan; Iowa

    5. Things I would do if I were a billionare: pay off the mortgage; give to charity; buy a fun convertible 2-seater sports car

    6. Peeps I want to know more about: Everyone who reads my blog should consider yourself tagged!! Feel free to answer these in the comments section or on your own blog!

You have the perfect spot for a garden. I miss ours. We gave up because we were just feeding the groundhogs. Too much work. (Yes we did try trapping them...they would send in the babies to get the carrots...once again feeding them LOL :) ...took the trap back to Agway after that)

    happy planting :)

I wish I had a killer tiller guy - my garden is too mature for such a leveling, but it could use it since we've been invaded by an unwanted plant of some sort. Have fun - it looks like you will have an abundance of fresh food.

Also, I was really touched by your post on leukemia. I wish you all the best with your training and fundraising.

    Since I don't have a blog, I thought I would answer here!

    1. What was I doing 10 years ago? My kids were 7, 5, 4 and 4 and I was so busy that the memories are hard to retrieve. I don't remember much sleep and I do remember LOTS of laundry.

    2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today- not in any particular order?
Buy flip-flops for one daughter, get prom shoes for the older daughter, do laundry. go to the library, and go to Target for both daughters' imminent need of lip gloss.

    3. Snacks I enjoy. M&M's; chocolate covered graham crackers and malted milk balls. Just say chocolate.

    4. Places I've lived-New York City (Greenwich Village in Manhattan to be exact, Maplewood, NJ, Pittsfeild, MA (in the beautiful Berkshires)and Maryland - right near DC.

    5. Things I would do if I were a billionare: pay off the mortgage; make sure all of the kids' college funds are full to the brim; buy a mini-cooper for me; buy my hubby a newer motorcycle.

Wow that tiller is something else! I planted my garden last weekend with the help of my Miss K. We have 7 types of tomatoes, beans, beans and more beans. The little man just had to plant some peas so we planted those from an envelope and they have already started to peak up from the ground. He's so excited. I can't wait to see your garden grow.

Killer Tiller guy, I wish we had one of those. I usually get my brother in law to till mine but I think he is too busy this year. I may just do containers on the patio.

Oh boy, you've got a garden going too! My husband is still wanting to make ours bigger and I am trying to restrain him, lol. I could sure go for some time in that hammock, though.

Amazing how gardening changes in different parts of the country. I harvested my first zucchini today. It was so exciting, I typically have a black thumb as well so this was a BIG deal at our house.

I wish you well on your garden...may we both have a bountiful harvest.

Your "yard" looks like fun, especially the hammock part:) We have a circle in the middle of our lawn from last years swimming pool. We're going to be traveling so muc this summer that we've decided against getting another pool. I should put a garden there..does your killer tiller guy commute?
