9/11

Today is a day of somber memories as we think back to this day 7 years ago when planes were used as weapons against America. My thoughts and prayers go out to those personally affected by the attacks.

It is also the day 1 year ago that we made the difficult decision to put our sweet Nikko down after her battle with Cognitive Dysfunction Disorder. It is the hardest decision a pet owner has to make, but we know that it was for the best. I still think of her often. She was with us as we raised our kids and is missed by all.

We had a stone marker made to put out where Nikko is buried. We are hoping it's a good long time before we fill in Sumo's final year. I think Sophie will do a good job at keeping him young at heart!

It is nice to have little Sophie with us. One can not be sad for long with a puppy in the house!! Nikko would have found her to be as big a pest as Sumo does, but I know would have taught her great things.

Until Next Time....

I remember your posts about Nikko and making that hard decision. : ( I thought of it as we were making the same decision with our springer, Abe a few weeks ago. I know we'll always miss him. Max is finally starting to seem like himself again, so I know he's been missing Abe as well. I hope Sophie will keep Sumo young for a long time.

I too hope Sumo's final year is not etched into that stone for a good long time. They are faithful friends aren't they.

I now what it's like to have a pet with Canine Cognitive Disorder . . . I'm sorry for your loss, and glad that you have Sophie in your family now - I'm I'll bet that Sumo secretly dotes on her - at least it looks that way from the photos you've been posting. :-)

My sympathy for your loss of your dear pet Nikko. Doesn't matter how long it has been, it still hurts a little. Sophie will be a good companion to Sumo. We also had to make that hard decision with our sweet Bitsy.

The wonder of our puppies is that they stay with us even when they're no longer physically with us - bitter sweet memories that make us sad and happy all at the same time. What a joy it is to have a new little one to help ease the pain and bring new joys.
