I'm Official!

Yes, I do believe that I am an official sock knitter now! (Boy, I hope I get a button or something!) I cast on my sock and started knitting with my usual 'these needles are WAY too little' experience. THEN, my friend and knitting mentor, Sheri, handed me her little magnifying reading classes, and WA LA! It wasn't the needles or the yarn that was causing my trouble..it was that I couldn't see it! (I always wore my prescription reading classes... but they don't magnify!) Well, I started making great progress after that!

The pattern I chose is one I found on a blog of the Fluted Banister Socks. It's an easy pattern to memorize and I love the way it is coming out. I used yarn from the Yarn Pirate in the Loopy colorway.

I forgot to mention that we are home now from Colorado. What a GREAT time we had. It was so hard to leave the mountains and our good friends. While we were there we took lots of great hikes. I took my sock knitting with me! (Thought I would take some fun pictures of my sock, kind of like what the Yarn Harlot does!) So here is my sock in progress in the stump of the tree. (Can you find it?... click on picture to enlarge if needed)

We even found some great sock knitting chairs on the top of Keystone mountain (I'm sure that's what they were there for....) so we did a few rounds on our socks before continuing our hiking adventure.

I continued working on my sock and finished the first one on our ride home yesterday. I had to bind off 3 times before it was loose enough, but it finally was finished!! I immediatly cast on my second sock and hope to finish that soon, because now I have tons of socks I want to knit and fun yarns to try.

Since this post is primarily about knitting, I will also show you the yarn purchases I made on vacation. The first yarn I found was at a cute store in Frisco, Colorado called What's Needling You. I found this yarn in the clearance bin and thought it would make a great felted bag.

On our way home, we stopped in Des Moines for gas and dinner and I spotted a knitting store called Knitted Together. Steve let Kirstin and I out and we ran to the store while he filled up with gas. They had a sample of this knit tank there and it is one of the things I have wanted to try, so I picked up the yarn and am going to give it a try.

We made it home in great time. Nikko and Sumo were happy to see us. Sumo wasn't overly excited about my sock, but that's ok. (He tends to hold a bit of a grudge when I leave him for awhile!) He'll get over it soon. He always does.

Next post, I'll share a few of the hundreds of pictures we took while on our vacation.

Until Next Time....

I am very proud of you. Those socks are amazing. I bookmarked that pattern. I think it will look great with some Posh yarn that I have.

Hey - nice sock! I'm so proud of you. Jules and I are still knitting in the mountains - why aren't you and Kirstin still here? We miss you. :-)

The sock is looking great! You're obviously further along than I am on the pattern...I'm not done the first one yet, but soon. I'm praying a lot that I don't run out of yarn and that they'll fit my Sockapalooza pal!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time on your vacation. Can't wait to see the pics.

What a great picture of you ladies sitting and knitting! I'd put that as the background on my desktop, were it me. Beautiful! And congrats on your first sock. I love that pattern! Sounds like you had a great vacation!

Impressive sock knitting. Coincidentally, I picked up some self-striping sock yarn while on vacation in Arnold, CA (red, white and blue on 50% off for the 4th of July holiday!). Not that I knit well enough to attempt that project so off it goes to a hometown neighbor who does it so well. Nice job, Janice!

Hi Janice! Love the picture of the little sock on the big piece of log. When I first glanced at the picture I thought it was a giant lizard!

You are now an official "sock" knitter, welcome to the addiction! They are one of my favorite things to knit.

Glad you're all home safe and sound.
