Final Farewell...

Thank you for all of your kind words of sympathy that you sent either by a comment or by email over the past couple of days. They have meant so much. I know many of you have been through the loss of a pet and can understand the emotional toll it takes on you. It was certainly a hard day, but it is comforting to know that she is finally at peace.

We had some wonderful last moments with her on Tuesday. Ryan got up extra early to have some time with her before he left for classes. She seemed to know that HE needed this time and she sat still and let him just love on her. (She had usually been quite agitated with our contact)

It was a beautiful, sunny cool day here and we took Nikko and Sumo for one last walk in the back field. (I can't tell you how many hundreds of walks we have taken back there.) At times we would see sparks of recognition in her, but then she would return to her circling, anxious ways.

I will miss her so. Sumo will miss her so. Good thing we still have each other!

Farewell faithful friend!

Today is another beautiful sunny day. And it is finally cool enough to wear socks! I was so excited to be able to wear my pair of Yarn Pirate Loopy socks I knit. They feel wonderful! It is the best motivation for casting on and finishing the mates to the lonely socks I have.

Still plugging away on my second Monkey sock. It looks rather funny because I still haven't frogged the first one I cast on that was too tight. I decided I would knit this one from the other end of the skein, and if there is enough yarn when I'm done with the sock, I can make a Monkey Fingerless glove with it. (Actually, I'm just doing my own version of 2 socks on 2 circulars!) My goal is to have these socks done by Monday.

Time to go love on Sumo. Trying to give him lots of extra attention.. which he just eats up! He seems to be doing ok. I'll give him hugs from all of you!

Until Next Time...

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. (I'm catching up on my blogs.) Hopefully you can gain some comfort knowing you were the best family for her. I had to let my sweet dog go last March, and I kept reminding myself that it was the best gift I could give him at that time. (If I knew you better, I'd send cyber-hugs, but as it is, just know that I'm thinking of you and your family - and Sumo, of course.)

I've been checking your blog all day to see all is well. Although I'm sure it is a comfort to know so many people are praying for your family, it is still one of the most difficult things in life to let go of a beloved pet. Thanks for keeping us informed. And just remember ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN.

I have been checking your blog all day, too, as I have been concerned about all of you! Our pets are part of our family, too, and it is so hard to lose a family member. I'm sitting here typing with tears in my eyes for you all. It's a good thing that my youngest son isn't here atm, because he would be asking me why I'm crying. All dogs do go to heaven! Please give Sumo a big hug for me! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I love your Yarn Pirate socks! They are gorgeous! Keep on knitting!

My prayers are with you and your family. It's always so hard and heartbreaking to let our pets go. I hope you can take comfort that she spent her last moments with you and that you took such good care of her. My family has had pets all my life and we've been thru many, many pets. They all bring their own individual joy and memories that are irreplaceable. Nikko was a very lucky lady!

I love the color of your monkey socks--so perfect for fall!

Take care, Jane

It is hard to lose a family member and the 4 legged variety are not much different. I am sure it is for the best though.

Your socks look great. I was able to wear my Wollmeise socks today even though it got warm outside the house stayed cool and my feet appreciated the hand knit socks.
Happy Knitting

Janice and Family - I am so sorry for your loss. I haven't been able to read blogs for over a week and am so sorry to hear that Nikko had such a difficult time after her diagnosis. You made a very difficult decision but you did what was best for her. That's one of the hardest things to do, I know from experience. My thoughts are with you and your family, and of course, Sumo.

I've looked forward to all of your posts and pics with Nikko. Thank you for sharing your pet pooch with me, I'm allergic to dogs so it was like having a virtual pet. I really enjoy all that you write and share, I know that these last few were difficult and I appreciate that you did it.

Give Sumo some extra hugs for me too. Hang in there. I love wearing handknit socks. They are the best.

Awwww, hugs to you all. I know it was hard. Give Sumo an extra hug from Nikko. And just keep knitting.
(you probably need some m and m's, too!)

Janice,
I too, am catching up on reading blogs. I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. It brrings tears to my eyes. We have a diabetic dog that also has Cushings, and another dog that has Congestive Heart Failure. Both are on medication and seem happy and alert at this point, but I know we will have to make the decision in the future when we feel their quality of life has diminished.
I am praying for you, as I am sure you still are missing your dear faithful friend.
