Rainy Days and Mondays...

always get me down. Well, to be honest, not always, but this has been a down day. We have made the decision that it is time to take Nikko in. There is no longer any joy in her life and she is frightened and agitated most of the time. So today is my last full day with her. I have spent most of it sitting with her and working on some knitting. I finished my first Monkey sock, which you see here with Nikko. Probably her last photo on my blog. So sad to think about. Tears have flowed already and I can't imagine what shape I'll be in tomorrow. (The appointment is at 2:00 pm) Steve offered to take her alone, but I know in my heart I need to go along, as hard as it will be. It will be the last small bit of comfort I can give her after a lifetime of love and companionship. Good byes are so hard.

The weekend was good, with Kirstin home for the first time from college. It was so nice to have her back! She is doing well at school and enjoys her classes. (For the most part...) We spent Sunday afternoon at the shower for Mallory. What a wonderful blessing that was. It was at our church and so many women came to shower Mallory with prayers and good wishes for their upcoming life together. Kirstin was able to finally give them the queen size rag quilt that she made for them this summer. It is done in their colors and turned out beautifully.

I wish I had more shower photos to share, but guess what? I forgot my camera! I never forget my camera. I think I'm losing my mind. I was able to take this picture of Mallory and Ryan with Mallory's two Grandma's that came up for the shower. It was so nice to meet them and have them come for this special day. (Along with Mallory's mom and sister). Next Sunday I'll be traveling to their hometown for another shower. What fun! We are truly blessed!

Well, I best be heading back downstairs to check on Nikko. I think I'll cast on my second Monkey sock and keep knitting the day away. I'll give Nikko hugs from all of you! Thanks so much for all your kind words and sympathy. I know many of you understand what we're going through.

Until Next Time...

Sending prayers and good wishes for all of you, and especially for Nikko. Our family went through something so similar, and while it is a difficult decision, our pets trust us and love unconditionally. Hugs to all of you.

I'm so sorry to read that it's time to say goodbye to Nikko. : ( It sounds like you are doing the right thing though. It's so hard to say goodbye to a loyal friend, though. I'm sure you'll be glad you went with her tomorrow, but I know it won't be easy.

The shower sounds wonderful and the quilt is beautiful! I'm sure they will treasure it always and I'll bet Kirstin had so much fun giving it to them.

I'm so sorry about Nikko. But it does sound like it's time and you're doing the right thing: putting her quality of life ahead of your own pain.

I've only just started reading your blog and had to comment on Nikko. It'll be hard a thing to do, but it's good to be there. I've had to make that decision with a pet before and it's never easy. It's good that you have the best interest of your pets in mind.

I'm so sorry about Nikko. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. The decision to do this is so difficult. We had to put our dog down in December. I know in my head it was the right thing to do, but the heart takes more time. I'll be thinking of you all. Take care.

I love wedding showers.
I think I would feel the same way as you about bringing Nikko in. I wouldn't want to not be there. I'll be thinking of you.

Poor Nikko and poor Janice. It is obvious that you and your family love her as unconditionally as she loves you. It is pain born of love-- we love our dogs so much and suffer with them in these times- Nikko is blessed to have so much love with her and I'm sure that she will feel it today. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this...

I am so sorry to hear that it is time to take Nikko in. I can't read your story without tears, so I do know what you are going through. We have had to take in several dogs over the years (we have been married 35 years this Dec). I am thinking of you! Hugs to Nikko, and hugs to you & Sumo & your family!!!

I don't know if you have experienced this before, but Sumo will grieve for his friend, Nikko, too, just as you do, so please give Sumo some big hugs, too! My heart goes out to you all! Take care, & know that I am thinking of you! Marianne Y
