MY ONE HUNDRETH POST..

..and a quirky contest! Yes, here it is. My one hundreth post. I had hoped to stretch out my posts so that this would land on my one year Blogiversary (which is August 7th)... but I just couldn't do it. So who knows... I may have to do something special for that as well!

Anyways, as I was thinking about what kind of contest to have, I reflected back on some of the reactions I have gotten when friends and family have found out I have a blog. Namely, that I am kind of 'quirky'. So, I decided that I would list 100 quirky things about myself for my 100th post! Ok, ok, maybe not 100, but a few. The contest is this: Leave a comment listing a 'quirky' thing about yourself. Something that makes you laugh at yourself (or causes others to laugh at you!) and I will draw a name from all of those that do, and will send you this fun prize that Sumo is so handsomely modeling for us. Now, I know that I have many 'lurkers' out there who have never opted to leave a comment. Nows your chance.

Here is what is inside the bag. Most of the items I got from Barn Happy, which is just about my favorite gift/coffee shop ever. There is a Barn Happy mug; some Barn Good coffee; some candy coated Soy Nuts (M&M's from the Heartland!); one felted bowl I made and 2 packages of M&M's for your microwaving pleasure. (See below).

On to my quirks. I've chosen 4 to share. Promise to laugh.

1. I micro- wave my M&M's. They are so delicious this way. About 20 seconds is usually enough. You want the shells to just start to crack and the chocolate to smoosh out the sides when you press from top to bottom. Do be careful. It is easy to cook them too long and then they are nasty and need to be thrown away.

2.
I will only use toilet paper that feeds out from the back of the roll. It totally drives me crazy when it comes up over the top and I will change it around wherever I am before I use it. There is a member of my family who thinks it's funny to load it the wrong way! If I ever find out who it is.........

3. I always park in the same spot when I go to my common shopping spots. (Walmart; Target; Hyvee; etc..). I have to do this so that I remember where I left the car. If I don't, it is very probable that I would spend a good amount of time trying to remember what car I drove; where I parked; what door I came in etc... This does worry Steve just a bit..... (It doesn't help that he purposely uses different spots and different doors when he goes with me! Hey.. I wonder if he is behind the T.P. roll as well!)

4. I don't know if this qualifies as quirky, but it does create a response when I tell people that my VERY FAVORITE lunch/snack is a Tomato- Potato Chip Sandwich.

2 pieces of bread; a layer of Mayo (NOT Miracle Whip.. yuck!); Lays potato chips and fresh tomatoes out of the garden. (I usually use larger tomatoes, but these are what were ripe today from the garden!). And, of course, my drink of choice, Diet Pepsi. (This was actually my lunch today!)

Ok.... there they are. A few of the things that make me me. I will take comments for one week and draw a winner on Sunday August 5th. (Make sure to leave a name with your comment. It is easy to comment with 'other' or Anonymous' for those of you who haven't commented before!) Looking forward to hearing about your quirks. I know you have them. We all do! Thanks for celebrating my One Hundreth post with me!

Until Next Time.....

Congratulations on your 100th post! I love your parking idea - the vehicle I drive is so big I couldn't lose it if I tried. I'm a tp over the top gal, but I appreciate your adherence to your preference. Here's my quirk - I feel compelled to wear shoes (or slippers) in my house all the time.

I do the exact opposite with the toilet paper.

My quirk is that I organize the make-up when I'm in a store... I'll be in Sephora with a buddy and I'll be arranging the lip glosses and eye shadows. Very strange, friends always think it's funny. I work in a make-up store myself and I have to step back when I'm somewhere else and say, 'This is not my store!'

Congrats on 100!

Congratulations on your 100th post. That's an accomplishment.

I'm not sure if this is quirky or just compulsive. I always double-click so the horn honks when I lock our SUV so that I "hear" that I've locked it. Otherwise I never remember that I locked it.

Congrats on 100!

I always have trouble thinking of "quirky" things about me. I'm so ordinary. LOL.

But I guess this qualifies - I can't sleep unless I have some kind of cover on me. This includes sleeping in the car, movie theater, airplanes, etc. If I don't happen to have a blanket or a wrap with me, I'll use a coat.

Happy 100 and looking forward to your next 100 ;)
I'm just the opposite when it comes to toilet paper...has to come over the top or I change it!

My familiy endlesslessly makes fun of my awful Boston accent. (My husband is from the western part of MA, so no Boston accent there.) and they constantly pick up on my inabitity to pronounce my "R's".

I have that "dog" thing about going to sleep. I lay down on one side and 5 seconds or 15 minutes later I have to turn to the other to go to sleep. lol I'm a tp over the top kinda gal too. And a quirky sandwich we made when we were kids (and it's good but I can't justify eating it now) is peanut butter with bacon sandwiches. Sounds weird but is it ever good and needs no refrigeration! Congrats on the 100th post!

If you were my mom and I knew the TP made you crazy, I think I would be changing it around just to bug ya!! We used to tape trigger on the sink spray gun shut so when my mom turned on the water it would shoot out at her. We thought we were hysterical, she didn't so much.

Quirky about me... I hate wearing a bra, HATE. Especially nursing bras b/c I can't find any to fit. It is the first thing I take off when I get home and the last thing I put on before I leave the house. Usually at home I have a tight fitting tank top.

Happy 100

Great post! I don't know why I have never thought about parking the car in the same spot, because I am always walking out of the store and standing there like an idiot, trying to remember where the car is.

Definitely, tp under the roll. I'm with you on that one.

Quirky about me? Oh, so many things. But here is one along the food lines - my favorite dressing on taco salad is an equal mix of Ranch and Catalina dressing together. Yum! (Did I get that from you?)

Congratulations on your 100th post. I love reading your blog!

Congratulations on your 100th Post! I usually lurk here and have you linked on my blog but I just usually lurk.

I haven't got a quirk worth mentioning except that I don't like looking in mirrors. That's not really a quirk. But it rhymes with lurk!

Well, I think I left this quirk about myself on Sheri's blog. But I have to take all the grocery bags in the house (including the gallon of milk!) all in one trip. I have no idea why...but I just have to. I hang all the bags from my wrists and then stumble to the door.

Congrats on your blog..it is fun to read!

OK, I think Janice indirectly pointed out to me that falling asleep in the movies is quirky. But I do fall asleep almost every time I go, which for obvious reasons, isn't often! I usually fall asleep if I sit down to watch tv, too. And it happens very quick. One minute I'm awake... the next, I'm out like a light.

So there's my quirk. The only one. HA HA!!

Oh my gosh we have a lot in common, just based on your 4 quirky things. Well I think I am pretty normal and everyone else is quirky. But my husband tells me it is weird that I will only eat P B &J if I have Lays potato chips with it. And he thinks it is gross that I eat cottage cheese with lays potato chips crunched in it. I don't microwave my M&M's but i will pop a few in my mouth and just let them sit there until the chocolate starts to melt, this is when the candy coating starts to slide off, and then I eat them, yummy.
Happy 100th post!!

Happy 100th mom! Well, I don't really feel like entering the contest, and you already know pretty much everything there is to know about me, so I don't really have to say anything about how quirky I am. But since we're on the topic of sandwiches and toilet paper, I must say that I prefer the tp over the top (but I'm not the one who changes it, so don't hurt me), and I also enjoy eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with doritos in them.

Anonymous said...

I'm with you, the tp has to be under. Even when we go to a hotel, I change it. This is kind of quirky...when traveling in the car, I read all signs/billboards, etc in a sing/song way. I didn't realize I did this until we went to Chicago last weekend and my son said something to me about it. Silly. I also love bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo and peanut butter sandwiches. Yummy! Congratulations on your 100th post! Kristi P.

Aura said...

ok, here goes with my quirk. I have never admitted it in writing. When I am doing my #2 business in the bathroom I have to have something to read. I will read anything. Just last week I found myself without reading material so had to resort to reading the back of the ultra compact light bulb package just to read something.

Anonymous said...

Well let's see. Something quirky. While I'm thinking I must say that I usually park in the same spot at work. Somewhere in the middle. I don't know exactly how many spaces over. I'll need to check into that. I like toilet paper under. Well since I am a new car owner, I've been thinking about cars. So here's my quirky little thing. I always like to put the emergency brake on no matter where I park (ie flat parking lot or steep driveway)

Congrats on your 100th post. My blogaversary is August 4th.

My quirk is I hate to run out of things. I always buy toilet paper, laundry soap, trash bags, wipes, diapers, Starbucks ice cream (but the stupid WalMart quit carrying it near me), graham crackers, dish soap when I open the last one I have. I think it makes me nervous not to have a spare.

Allison said...

What a great idea and fun contest. I'm finding I'm not so quirky given many of us seem to have some similarities there. As with Bonnie I need at least a sheet over me to sleep but only in bed - sleeping at the movies, in a car, at a concert, at a board meeting - i can do without a cover! Also like Meg I HATE taking more than one trip from the car, I think I've even sprained my wrist with too many bags on it! The two unique ones that come to mind are that I hate to write with a dull pencil - I keep a sharpener close by (must be electric) and frequently sharpen the pencil. Also when I have my way I organize the bookshelves so that the tallest books are on the left and then in descending height to the right. I thought everyone did that until my Mom made fun of me when I was setting up my son's bookshelf . . . .

Enjoy your post Janice, good way for Grandma to keep up with the family. Enjoy all your recipes, you know the cormmeal rolls won Grand prize at the County Fair! the white rolls also got a first prize.
As for quirks, really did not think I had any!!! I do like to double click the keys when I lock the car door. One thing, I do not like is eating with a dinner fork. I prefer a salad fork, just works better for me.
Would love to win you prize!

Congratulations on your 100th post! I guess one of my quirks is I keep a running grocery list and if I think of something I have to write it down immediately. I also try to park near a cart corral whenever possible:~D

Congrats on the 100th post!

One of my many quirks and that's weird, and I have no idea where it comes from is...

I will not sit behind the driver in any vehicle, including busses! I can't stand it, I don't know why I'm like that. Never been in an accident while sitting behind a driver, nothing. But I can't do it, and I'll make everyone rearrange themselves to accomodate me!

PS I'm going to have to try the M and Ms thing! Sounds good!

congrats on the 100th post! i totally agree with the TP thing It has to roll from the back. the same goes for the paper towels to. i also get weird when the towels and wash clothes are not folder evenly on the holders. unsightly corners drive me crazy. i think my husband does it on purpose.

I hear you on the toilet paper, i do mine that was cos of my cats but find when i am somewhere else i change the roll for me. My quirk is I have my "dessert" spices separated from my "casserole" spices and they are alphabetized.

I think my quirky thing is, I prefer and even # of things, not odd, for instance, 2 cookies, not 3, 6 grape tomatoes, not 5. :-)

Is your fmaily okay up in Minnesota?

KnittingHawkeye said...

btw, when you went to the Midwest Fiber Festival and went to buy STR at The Fold, did you talk to a girl wearing Iowa gear by chance?

KnittingHawkeye said...

If she had the 7th HP book and was knitting a pair of pink, green & black socks. That would have been me. =) I'll be at Stitches this year and my yarn will be in The Fold's booth for sale. =)

I'm glad you've heard from most of your family. My sister almost went to Minnesota for law school. She would have driven that quite a bit because she probably would have had to comute. =/ Hope you hear from the last one soon.

Hey Janice! It took all day for me to come up with something quirky about me (there are lots I'm sure, but when pressed, don't remember). So when the family was sitting at dinner, I asked them, no one had anything (and I thought for sure they would come up with tons), but while eating, my son said "That's it! you store the food you place in your mouth on one side and then slowly eat it from there". "I do?" OHHHH...yeah... so that's mine.(why I do that is another story)

I had to go upstairs to see which way the TP unrolls...actually, I knew, but had to verify....from the top! actually, the brand sticks to itself, so it's always unrolling from the bottom. Perfect! BWAHAHAHAHA

>> how fun...100th post!
(good thing you and Sherri talk about food...I would never know what to have for dinner if it weren't for the two of you~)

(...and Nancy...I prefer odd numbers...we help balance the world!)

I can write now. One of our kids was at the Twins game, next to the bridge collapse. He's home safely now.

Karen(stringslinger) shared your blog with me. I enjoy it. My quirk is that I have to make the bed first thing, every morning. If I leave in the morning before my husband and he doesn't make it, I have to make it before I crawl in at night. I can't get into an unmade bed. If I'm out of town for the weekend and he doesn't make the bed, I change the sheets when I get home.

My knitting quirk is that once I start to decrease at a toe end or mitten top, I need to continue until its done. But maybe that's not a quirk, just common sense.

i have to set my alarm clock so that the numbers after the colon add up to the numbers before the colon. so i can't set it for 6:00 or 6:30, but i can set it for 6:06, 6:15, 6:24, 6:33, 6:42, or 6:51.

Congrats On Your 100th Post!

My quirks...

I MUST straighten all the pillows and cushions on my sofa before I leave the house......

My toilet paper is the exact opposite of yours and my family insists on your way...I change it every time

I must have my money for my morning coffee at the drive thru out of my wallet before I leave the driveway!

Have a great day!

My quirk is that I have to always have several books at the ready. I can't stand not to have something ready to read when I finish a book. My husband says I could open a book store out of our bedroom (oh come on...it's only two bookcases full).
Oh, and the TP always goes over the top in our house...and I will change it back that way if I am anywhere else. You and I would have quite a time if we were to visit each other, wouldn't we?!

Congratulations on your 100th Blog! I enjoy reading it, & I go back to read what I miss.

My heart and prayers go out to all of those who are affected by the Minneapolis bridge collapse tragedy. I have close ties to Iowa, and I love MN, too.

I have a couple of quirks. I'm the opposite of you on which way the TP must unroll, & I change it everywhere so that it will unroll over. :-) I must have my Arizona Sun Tea Raspberry flavor iced tea, every morning. whether it is summer or winter; without it, I am a zombie! And, I love Coldstone's Coffee Lover's ice cream.

Congratulations on your 100th post too!!! I have lots of weird things about me, but of course I can't think of them now. LOL. but, here's a few:
1) I used to work for a dentist, and I am horrible about watching tv and telling DH that whoever we are watching should try the bristle end of a toothbrush once in a while... I LOVED Pirates of the Caribbean - but couldn't stand their teeth!
2)I can put a worm on my hook (according to my Son - that's weird for a woman)
3)I can't WAIT to get to the bathroom after a meal or snack, so I can brush and floss! I also floss sometimes when I am driving!

Cute idea! I do the opposite with t.paper. Also with chocolate- I actually like my chocolate cold and I keep it in the fridge. Is that quirky??
Hmmm....also, I really don't like the feel of toenails against my socks. I keep them REALLY short in the winter. In the summer they are longer so they don't look weird in sandals.

Congratulations on 100 posts! My quirk is that I sort my coloured candies (Smarties, M&Ms, etc.) into colours, and then eat them - only in pairs - in order of the colours of the rainbow. :0)

Yay for you! 100 posts!

I do the opposite with the toilet paper. If someone else in the house replaces the roll 'wrong' I have to fix it!

Happy 100th post!

My quirk (one of many) is that when I eat a steak, I have to melt butter all over it, with a little salt and pepper, and then put a pat on the side of the plate with A1 sauce, salt and pepper to dip the steak in.

Congratulations on your 100th post!

Since sandwiches seem to be a theme here, I'll stick to that. I like to add things to my grilled cheese sandwiches. Sometimes they're things that people consider fairly normal, like ham or mushrooms and onions, but sometimes people think they're kind of strange. For example, one kind I like involves Dijon mustard, jam, and cheese.

I have to have my dishwasher loaded a certain way. If someone else in the family loads things in a different way, then I rearrange things before I run the load through. Weird, I know.

Anonymous said...

I can think of a few....

1. HAVE to have jujifruits for the movie snack when my daughter and I go to the movies. I buy a box at the grocery store and then I throw out ALL the greens and put the rest in a zip lock bag to 'smuggle' in to the movies.

2. When eating lunch I always use a paper towel as a napkin. But if it comes off the roll torn, I can't use it. Has to be a whole sheet.

3. HAVE to have my morning Constant Comment hot tea every morning, no matter what time of year it is...

what fun this is to read everyone's quirks, makes me feel like we're all cut from the same cloth (and the quirks are so varied...)

Shelley L. MacKenzie said...

Whew...glad I stopped by in time to enter your contest!! I haven't been in blogland very much the last little while.

Ok...your quirky toilet paper thing is a quirky toilet paper thing with me too - only I have to have it over the top, not in back. It drives me nuts when I go to someone's house and they have it at the back...takes every bit of effort for me to NOT turn it around!

Another quirk is that I have to wear shoes if I walk on grass...no way will I walk barefoot on grass (which is weird because when I was younger I would walk barefoot on grass).

Anonymous said...

So, Okay, on a rainy day I check your blog! Too late to enter any of my remarkably few quirks – I am SO normal – can you send comments anonymously? Anyway – I would have submitted:

I NEED jam on my pizza! Any jam will do but homemade, frozen strawberry is my favorite.

Certain times on my digital clock represent good omens which, for me, means I will be able to go back to sleep! The good omens are times like 1:22, 2:33, 3:44, etc. I’ve seen them all in the last 2 ½ years. Of course the very best would be 1:11, 2:22, etc.

I do everything in odd numbers – I plant 3 trees or flowers, pick 3, 5 or 7 flowers, etc. Remember Fibonacci?

Of course, everybody knows that toilet paper has to come off the top. Easier to grab without touching the wall.

I eat only while standing up – usually over the kitchen sink. Just think how often that allows me to eat!!

That’s it – not one other weird thing about me!!

Congrats on your 100th post! I don't read many blogs but have been reading yours since the beginning. Someday I'll find the time to start my own.
Quirks? Where do I start? I'm with you on the toilet paper. It's not normal to come over the top. I always re-organize the dishwasher. Tuna sandwich with only Kirlands's tuna, Hellman's mayo, Mrs. Dash, and Lays potato chips crumbled on top. Unplug coffee maker and toaster when leave the house. Never buy the top magazine or newspaper. I always take the 3rd or 4th down. I have long hair that I wear down when out of the house but as soon as I get home it has to go up in a clip. I'd better stop now. I'm afraid if I keep going I'll realize that I might need therapy. Keep up the great blog. I especially love all of your recipes!
