Deer Season

Yes, it is deer hunting season. Each year my four brothers place their $5.00 wager as to who will get the biggest buck and then spend the weekend trying to earn their money back and get their name and picture put on the trophy for the Biggest Buck Award. This year my youngest brother got the honor with his 10-point buck. Here he is making fun of my other brother's mere 7-point buck. My two oldest brothers had to settle for just taking pictures!!

What we learned this past weekend, however, is that there is more than one way to get a buck! Late Sunday night K's roommate was driving K's car and ran into a large deer. We are very thankful that her roommate walked away without a scratch. The car and the deer were not so lucky!! The car is totaled and we are now in the process of trying to find a good used car for her.

Between that, and my tax seminar Tuesday and babysitting today, I haven't been able to do much knitting. I'm excited (and nervous) to cast on my sweater. I think I may be changing my mind on which one to do, but I'll let you know. I'm casting it on this weekend. Promise.

In the meantime, I am pushing hard for a new kitty. Yes, I think this is reason enough to get one. A mouse. A mouse in my house. This is the time of year they always come in. And when you live in the country like we do, it is a fact of life. But it doesn't mean I like it!! I'm thinking a cat would remedy this situation...don't you think? Does it REALLY matter that my children are allergic? I mean, it is very possible they are allergic to mice as well and this would help them out!

Oh, by the way, as a self-proclaimed expert in the mouse catching field, I truly believe that the mousetrap you see in the picture is The Better Mouse Trap. I've tried them all. This one works best. Now you know.

Well, I think I do have a little time tonight that I can get some knitting done, so I think I'll do that.

Until Next Time.....

Greetings. I am a representative of the Society Aiming for the Proper Treatment of Unjustly Treated Animals (SPATUTA). It has come to SPATUTA's attention that you have pictures containing violence towards a mus musculus (mouse)and two bucks. We will therefore charge you two MILLION bucks for said photos.
Regards. Payment may be sent through your daughter. Cash preferred.

Kirstin is making me laugh!!

My middle sister and I are allergic to cats but my youngest sister is really allergic to mouse poop, her face and neck swell up. We got a cat!

Ken is very sympathetic to your mouse problem, he hates varmints.

Oh nasty! If that's not a good reason for a cat, I don't know what is. We used to live in a really old farmhouse when we first got married and I don't even want to tell you how many mice we'd kill every winter. Gross. (dh is very allergic to cats so we didn't have one inside) I kept almost all my food in tupperware, it was so bad.

That is a scary photo of the car, I'm so glad no one was hurt!!!!

Well, for your information, mother, I am not allergic to cats. I just don't really like them. Or they don't like me. If it's not one way, it's the other. Also, glad Hanna wasn't hurt, though it's too bad about the car; it was a good car.

My daughter used to give her cat baths, and it really did help with her allergies. One must be specially trained to do it though. One night, the cat came in with mud on her paws and my husband thought he'd just wash her paws off in the sink since the cat never complained when Paige gave her a real bath; he learned his lesson!

Good Luck Deer Hunting Brothers!

Ooooo poor car! So glad no one was hurt!!

YICK!! Mice! The past two years we have been getting them in our attic. Double Yick!! And as much as I'm not fond of cats, I seriously want a mouser cat in the winter. The downside of living in the country...

Specifics on the trap?? I will be stocking up for the winter

Winter is coming, which means mice will be looking for a home and where there is already one...

My folks are big into deer hunting too - hard to believe it's that time already.

For 15 yrs I've lived between a grain elevator and a field, so I can totally sympathize. We currently have two cats who are obviously overfed, because we still get a few mice each year.
:-)
However, a few a year is nothing compared to the dozens we used to get, and a cat would give your puppy dog some company. Plus, they are good at warming up cold feet in the winter!

I am so sorry to hear about Kirsten's roommate's accident with Kirsten's car! I am so glad that she is ok! We have a gazillion car-deer accidents in Michigan, the second most in the nation! Just for some fun (but true), over the weekend, two of our county's sheriffs' patrol cars met deer. Now, when we hit a deer, the paper will list it either as our car or we hit the deer. But, not either of the sheriff's deputies! In both cases, the paper said that the deer ran into the patrol cars, haha! Seriously, I am really glad her roommate is fine, and I am really sorry to hear that Kirsten's car is totalled. That's a bummer! I hope you find a good used car, that is something you will be happy with. I went through getting my oldest son a good, older used car in May this year, & that was interesting. I liked comparing them on the Internet, but then we ruled out anything that was not through a car dealer.

On the cat issue, umm: 1) I thought that Sumo got mauled by that little kitty that you were bringing to your friend? I'm not so sure that bringing a cat into the house is fair to him? 2) I am very allergic to cats. Cat allergies are usually a lot worse than dog allergies, so that should be a big consideration in your decision, I would think, if you have cat allergies in the family. 3) We get mice in the house in Michigan at this time of the year. Peanut butter works great as bait! Sorry, I guess if I got a vote, it would be against a cat, for many reasons.

Best wishes on your sweater! I'm still curious what that book was that you had your yarn around earlier? Marianne

Yes, mice are nasty and as much as I would love a cat, I am outnumbered and so it will never happen. I have to just enjoy everyone else's cats!
As far as the sweater book, it is the Ella Rae Queensland Collection Book 7. It has lots of great patterns in it!! I can't wait to try!

Ewww, I remember living in the country in MN and those nasty creatures getting in somehow. About the cat, there are cats that allergic people can tolerate, such as the sphinx. I'd definitely get a cat!

Your KCS Pal :)

Thank you for the name of the book, Janice! It looks like an awesome one, from the picture with your yarn! Marianne

That is why I don't even let my parents drive my car. =/ f her roommate uses her car, Kirstin should be with her. They will probably come back into Iowa City over winter break again and shoot deer. They've been doing it for a few years because the population is so high. Hopefully you'll find her a good car soon.
Poor mouse, if my sister's bf saw this he'd cry heh. =p

I grew up in a old house and we had a cat. Yes, the mice would try to invade, but our cat was an expert mouser. I agree with you - cats are the answer....we have had problems with mice in the past and we should have a cat, but my husband will not have a cat in the house. It's a no win situation. He's not allergic, he just doesn't like them. Good luck!

Glad no one was hurt in the accident...that was a close call!

So, we have cats and we have mice who come in the house this time of year. And cats think the mice are toys. Cats interrupt our evening tv viewing with a show of how to chase, flip and toss (but not harm) a mouse. Then husband entertains with how not to maim a finger whist setting mouse traps.
I just sit back and knit during the entertainment.

Hmmm. Hehe, payment through your daughter, huh? Yummy venison. I say get a cat, my kitty is much loved for being a great hunter! They make allergy pills or shots, right. lol Glad everyone is ok, someday, maybe deer will learn to stay off the roads!
