CAST ON....

Whenever I feel that there are things in my life competing for my knitting time, I feel quite compelled to just keep casting on new projects. Somehow that seems to help. Not sure why. I will get to the things that are keeping me from knitting in a bit, but first I will show the projects that I have cast on in the last couple of days. (I won't show you the 3 things that are set to be cast on later today, if I can...)

Here is the scarf that I have decided to make out of the wonderful yarn sent to me by Allison in my prize package. As you can see... not much actually knit, but it is cast on which gives me some sort of satisfaction....

The next project are some socks knit with Claudia Handpainted in Peppermint Mocha colorway. I did the toe on dpn's and then picked up and started knitting on 2 circulars. I'm trying to decide which method I prefer for knitting socks. What do you prefer? (Those of you who are sock knitters???)

I would love to try 2 socks on 2 circulars.. but one thing at a time.....

Speaking of 2 socks, I also cast on the 2nd sock of my Cider Moon Glacier pair in the Casablanca colorway. I have this on dpn's. (This is actually the project I keep in the car for unexpected times of waiting... )

So, what has been keeping me from knitting???

1. I spent the better part of 3 days mailing out the 'Save The Dates' for our son's upcoming wedding. We sent out wallet size photos that I made into magnets and put on cards with a link to their wedding website. All went well until we realized that when the excel spreadsheet that Ryan had created with ALL of Mallory's parents' addresses was sorted alphabetically it ONLY sorted the names. That's right. Let it sink in. Every one went out to the right address with a wrong name. (Or the right name with the wrong address..however you want to look at it!!) I felt like I'd been hit in the gut. I know that someday I will be able to laugh at the whole mess. Someday. (Hasn't happened yet, tho!) Yeah, I know. At least it wasn't the invitations ....

2. The second, and probably biggest time stealer has been Harry Potter. And yes, that is book 6 and book 7. I hadn't read book 6 yet, so I started that when book 7 came out (to bide my time while I waited for my turn for book 7). I finished book 6 and am now 1/3 of the way through book 7. My goal is to finish reading it before we head to St. Louis Monday so we can talk about it with our Loopy friends down there!!!

Notice my coffee. Every morning Kirstin makes us each a wonderful latte in her cappuccino machine and brings it to me in my favorite mug. (I told her this behavior is seriously jeopardizing her chances of me letting her go to college in a few weeks!!) It is always oh so yummy!! (And the perfect accompaniment to knitting or reading or just about anything!!)

The dogs have also been keeping me from knitting.. but that is another whole post that will have to wait for now!!

Oh, and don't forget you have until Sunday, August 5th to help me celebrate my 100th Post by entering my quirky contest. Just scroll down to the post from Sunday July 29 and read all about it!!

Until Next Time.....

P.S. Please continue to keep all those affected by the Minneapolis bridge collapse in your thoughts and prayers!

OMG, Janice. I feel your pain! And you are so right that this will be a permanent source for amusement in your family!

Oh wow - major drag! If they have e-mail addresses you can just let them know - they'll think it's funny! Just think - at the wedding they can wear name tags that say "Ignore my mail - my name is actually Allison." I too love those save the date cards! As to socks - I have just cast on my first pair (photo soon) and my LYS is going to stock 12 inch addi's in size 2 (and other sizes). How cool is that? So right now they are on sox stix DPN's but as soon as I get those 12" ones I'm switching! She has also ordered some 11" needles form another company! Also jealous about Harry - i still need to read book 6 . . . .

Harry Potter is a total time sucker and I've read all the books and I'm working on a re-read already.
I prefer socks on dpn's though I've never tried on circulars. I haven't tried toe-up yet either.

Oops!
What a cute idea with the magnets, though.

I like the 2 circs, the magic loop, and dpns for different projects. :)

Harry Potter was great! Enjoy!

Hi! I am a fellow knitter and I live in Maryland. I found your blog because I was looking for someone who had knit the Vintage Balloon Bag and now I am here to stay!
I wanted to ask you: how did you modify the bag? Did you use the three-needle bind off? Kitchener stitch? I saw that you knotted the handles...did you make them longer?
Thanks for the help,
Jane

Jane,
I'm so glad you found me! :-) If you email me I would be happy to send you my modified pattern of the Vintage Bubble bag... (You can email me by going to my complete profile and clicking on the 'Email Me' link.
or to:

jriggs@mwsupernet.com

It's my very favorite bag to knit! And now that you mention it, it makes me want to cast one on.....

Well, maybe they will think it is humerous, I hope none of them will be offended. Those are cute cards/magnets. I am a dpn gal too, but sometimes I like two circs if the pattern is more circular friendly.

You realty do have lots in the works...knitting wise and family wise. Hope the knitting makes you feel better.

12/29/07...that's not that far away...no wonder you are feeling the way you are :) Love the save the date cards, but so sorry about the sorting problem...I feel your pain...so sorry. I do think years from now you will be laughing about it and yes...thank goodness ...it wasn't the invitations!!!!

happy knitting :)

My condolences on the save the dates. Really, this is the stuff weddings are made of. Now that it's out of the way, everyone can just relax and let the celebration unfold. Maybe you could make a game of it - at the wedding, have people try to find each other - match names with proper addresses... Maybe casting on numerous projects is a good thing- that way you have plenty of projects ready to go.

Haha, yes I recieved your order. I kept wondering about your order. =) The UK e-mail is a LONG story and has to do with websites I run. I'll dye up some more Molly after Gencon which will probably be around the 21st for my next update unless I have stuff left over from Stitches. The next 2 1/2 weeks are going to be busy and fun! =) I'll get your order out today, I trust that the echeck will clear. =) If not. . . . I have your address and live in Iowa. . . . =P j/k =)
